New commandant of President’s Guard

Col Tejvir Singh Mundi,a resident of Chandigarh,has been selected as the Commandant of the President’s Body Guard (PBG ).

His father Commodore R S Mundi was in the Navy and his grandfather Malagar Singh served with the British Indian Army and fought against the Japanese in World War II on the Burmese Front. He had then joined the Indian National Army.

His maternal grandfather,Major Gian Singh fought in World War II and held the distinction of being among a select handful of Indian officers to command the troops. Mundi’s uncle Maj Gen G S Malhi had been the Commandant of the President’s Body Guard in 1995.

The PBG was raised by the then governor Warren Hastings in September 1773. It is one of the oldest surviving mounted units in the world and the senior-most regiment of the Army.

Col Mundi is a product of the National Defence Academy. A sports person,Defence Services Staff College qualified,he had also commanded an armoured regiment. His wife Simi is a psychiatrist in Chandigarh.
