The Central Railway (CR) is facing an unique problem these days,of trains arriving at and leaving platforms before the scheduled time.

According to CR officials,it has received several complaints from commuters boarding trains from Ghatkopar,Ulhasnagar,Mulund,Dombivli,Bhandup,Thane and Kalyan stations on CR Line and Sanpada station on Harbour Line.

“Most of these complaints are of trains during afternoon hours. However, there are complaints of specific trains like Asangaon-CST local, which reaches Kalyan before its scheduled time in the morning, and of a CST-Titwala local which reaches Ghatkopar before time,” said a Central Railway spokesperson.

“The timetable released by the railways is based on the old rakes, which have speed limit of 80 km/per hour. However, the new Siemens rakes run at the speed of 100 km/per hour, thus leading to trains arriving before the scheduled time,” said a motorman. “These problems should get solved when the new timetable is released.”

“Although the suburban trains start on time from originating stations, these are allowed to leave three minutes early from enroute stations to make up for any loss of time in the remaining journey. Instructions in this regard are also printed in the suburban train time table for the knowledge of the passengers,” said Shriniwas Mudgerikar, the chief spokesperson for the Central Railway.
