Come October and the residents of Dwarka will be able to avail of a new bus service started by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) exclusively for them. Called Dwarka-Mudrika, the bus service is aimed at ending the dearth of public transport options available to residents of the area.
There will be a fleet of cherry-coloured air-conditioned buses run by the agency in the sub-city that will also function as a Metro feeder service to all eight Metro stations in the area- from Dwarka More to Sector 9.
The initiative is expected to be launched by Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on October 2. DTC will initially begin with a fleet of six buses running up and down the route spanning around 28 kilometres.
“It will be a ring service, running across the Metro station route and the buses will be available at a frequency of about 15 minutes,” a senior DTC official said.
Apart from being a completely air-conditioned bus service, officials added the buses will have no conductors.
“Computerised tickets will be handed by the drivers and there will also be the provision of smart cards, similar to Delhi Metro,” said the official.
While passengers with Smart Cards will swipe their cards on a machine to be provided at the front door, passengers without Smart Cards will be issued a ticket after informing the bus driver about their destination. Passengers using smart cards will have to give a deposit of Rs 50, as in the case of the Delhi Metro.
