New faces

Around 70 young designers made their debut last week as Pearl Academy of Fashion showcased the talents of its students at a fashion show called ‘Portfolio 09’.

Around 70 young designers made their debut last week as Pearl Academy of Fashion showcased the talents of its students at a fashion show called ‘Portfolio 09’. Even as ace designer Ritu Kumar looked on,models like Amanpreet Wahi,Sonalika Sahay and Tina Chatwal strutted on the ramp in collections with names like Jadoo,Rockistan,Cultivated Beauty and Crossroads.

The students experimented not only with colour and texture but also with technology and non-conventional material. Snigdha Kejriwal,who shared the award with Astha Sethi,evoked the calmness of meditation through a minimal line that matched soft colours with specially treated natural fabric. “I designed the clothes keeping in mind the Indian summer. The economic downturn has stressed out everybody,so I made sure that every outfit is soothing to the senses,” she said about the collection called Prana,Born From Experience.
