New formula: NCP settles for 114

Second round of seat sharing talks saw a formula being decided wherein the Congress would get 174 seats as compared to NCP's 114.

The second round of seat sharing talks between the Congress and NCP on Wednesday saw a formula being decided wherein the Congress would get 174 seats as compared to the NCP’s 114.

Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Kripashankar Singh said while a share of 174 seats was decided for the Congress,the NCP would get 114 seats.

A meeting in this regard was held at Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s official residence of Varsha at Malabar Hill.

Singh added that the Congress and NCP leaders would again meet on Thursday at Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s residence of Ramtek.

The final seat sharing is expected to be announced in New Delhi. It is learnt that discussions about 200 out of the 288 Assembly seats were held on Wednesday.

It is also learnt that the Congress-NCP combine has decided to accommodate the independent legislators affiliated to their respective parties.

However,Singh and state Labour Minister Nawab Malik (NCP) have together staked claim to the Kalina seat which is said to have become the bone of contention between the two parties.
