The Centre Wednesday said it will appoint the chairperson of the National Green Tribunal in four weeks. It also told the Supreme Court that the Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved four of the six names as judicial members of the tribunal and that their appointment will be notified within three weeks.
The court had, at the previous hearing, made it clear that the NGT could not be left in "doldrums" over the appointment of its chairperson. It had also said that in case the Centre failed to remedy the situation, it might consider giving liberty to the high courts to take up such matters.
