Over the years, IIT Bombay has churned out some of the best engineers.
Now, the former students will get a helping hand as the institute launches an 'alumni-alumni mentorship programme' on the lines of 'alumni-student mentorship programme', in which expertise of former students is used to help and guide the current lot.
"Many of our alumni need mentors and the number of requests from former students to start an initiative where they can use the experience, knowledge and assistance of other alumni has gone up in the last one-and-a-half years. Hence, we decided to launch this initiative. We will launch the 'alumni-alumni mentorship programme' in the next two months," said Bakul Desai, chairman of IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA) board of directors.
From career guidance to home loans — the project will cover a range of issues.
"All requests for help or interaction will be routed through IITBAA. A formal structure is being created to facilitate this," Desai said.
A panel of mentors will be created. Once a request comes in, what the mentee wants and what the mentor can offer will be reviewed.
The parameters will be matched and once both parties agree, the process of interaction will start.
For the 'alumni-student mentorship programme', alumni and students have to register on a website maintained by Student Alumni Relations Cell. Each student is allotted a mentor, depending on preferences.
