New PHQ to come up in Parliament Street area

The Delhi Police has signed an agreement with a Mumbai-based company for the construction of a new multi-storey headquarters behind the Parliament Street police station, a heritage structure that dates back to 1913.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 202 crore.

"Commissioner of Police, Delhi, has signed an agreement with Unity Infraprojects Ltd for the development of a new police headquarters building, residences and related infrastructure and services on the prime site at Parliament Street. (It is) on public-private partnership mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis," a Delhi Police statement said.

The project is expected to be completed in two years and will have two towers, which will have nine storeys each. The towers will be connected through corridors. "It will be a modern office building and will conform to green building norms. The central court will be landscaped with trees, paved area and water features," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Land and Building) V K Gupta said.

He said the building has been designed to do justice to the heritage of the site.
