Lack of co-ordination between telecom companies and the MC’s Building and Roadways Department has come to the fore again. And it is taking its toll on Daba road, which was laid barely two and a half months ago at a cost of Rs 43 lakh, and is now being dug by a private telecom company to lay telephone cables.
A kilometer-long stretch of the road has already been damaged because of the cable-laying work, which is carried out during night hours.
According to sources, as the company officials overseeing the work enjoy the patronage of some senior SAD leaders, they are being allowed to get away with the violations and the damage caused to the newly-laid road.
Interestingly, when contacted by Newsline, the MC officials expressed their ignorance about the whole matter and said they were not aware whether a formal permission had been taken for the project or not. When Newsline spoke to the B&R officials, they said they would look into the matter and find out whether it was being done with official sanction or not.
Daba road, it may be mentioned, connects three wards of the city and is an important road for the city. MC Commissioner AK Sinha, in a recent general house meeting, had stressed that a proper co-ordination was a must with various departments so as to avoid damage to the roads.
Sinha, when contacted today, said, “Till now, no one has brought the matter to my notice, but now I will look into the matter. If the company has violated any rule, action will be taken against it.”
