A stones throw from the action at Ramlila Maidan, the maternity ward of Lok Nayak Hospital is supporting Anna Hazare in a unique way. At least four couples have named their newborns after Hazare,in the last one week.
Ritu Singhs (23) son was born through a Cesarean section on Monday,Janmashtami day,and she decided to name him after Anna. We knew roughly that I would deliver around Janmashtami. We had decided to name the newborn Krishna, said Ritu,a few hours after her delivery. According to her, they changed plans a week ago, when the police arrested Anna.
Kaushal Bibi, who delivered on Saturday, said they had named their daughter Anna. My husband keeps going to the protest ground and comes back with memorabilia. I am proud that my child has been born in such a historic moment, Kaushal said.
Kaushals husband,Irfan (34) said,I have decided as soon as my wife and little Anna are discharged,I will take them to the Maidan, and try to get Annajis blessings.
Another couple,Shabana and Wasim, have decided to name their child Hazare. Everyone here says they will name their child Anna. At least six couples in Block B ward on the first floor said they were thinking of the possibility. I wanted to do something different, said Wasim Khan, who works at a card shop in Chandni Chowk.
Shabana said,When I was being wheeled into the labour room,he told me that dont worry, you and Hazare will be back soon.
A father-to-be waiting outside the labour room with a group of family members, all clad in Anna topis said he had decided on naming his baby Anna. Annas blessings will be with my baby throughout. My child will grow up to be honest and forthright, he said.
Besides,I have not been able to go to the Maidan, since these were the last few days of her pregnancy. This is our way of showing support, he said.
The hospital also caters to patients of heat stroke coming in from Ramlila Maidan.
