Next year ,students from West Bengal will not get question papers in Bengali when they will appear for the combined medical test for admissions to medical colleges across the country.
In a meeting with Medical Council of India (MCI),representatives from West Bengal were told that question papers will not be made available in Bengali as the exams will be conducted in only two languages Hindi and English.
The question papers will not be available in Bengali or any other regional languages. It will be made available only in English and Hindi, Utpal Dutta,
principal of Calcutta Medical College,who took part in today’s meeting told The Indian Express.
However,the cut-off marks for entry to the medical colleges will be done away with. Earlier,a student had to secure 50 per cent aggregate to appear for the medical entrance examination in the country. From now on,there will be no such limit.
Till this year,students from the state had the privilege of getting question papers in Bengali when they appeared for the state Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Experts say,that a part of JEE question paper was subjective and hence language skills were required to an extent. But as the Common Entrance Test will have multiple choice questions,language would not make much of a difference.
