The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sought a report from West Bengal government and police on the killing of a person in police firing in Nadia district. Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report, the NHRC issued notices to Chief Secretary and DGP to submit reports in the matter within four weeks. One person was killed and nine others were injured in clashes and police firing in Tehatta. Eight police personnel were also reported to have been hurt. "Some villagers had been allegedly demanding permission to organise puja at a particular venue and put up a blockade .
