  • Three passports, Rs 15 lakh and some documents relating to arms smuggling were seized on Thursday when sleuths from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata police raided a hotel in Territi Bazaar. One of the two suspected terrorists arrested the day before was staying at this hotel.

According to STF sources, two bags belonging to each of them were found carrying Rs 15 lakh.

It is suspected that the money was to be used to buy arms from abroad, which wwere later smuggled into India.

Usually, the amount is transferred into dollars and then sent abroad by money transfer procedures.

The passports which have been seized, STF sources claim, contain evidence that one of the accused had travelled abroad to countries like Singapore several times.
