An illustrated book documenting the sari will be launched in the National Capital on December 11. Titled Indian Saris: Traditions – Perspective – Design, the book has been authored by Professor Vijay Singh Katiyar of the Faculty of Textile Apparel Design, NID.

The book contains close to 900 photographs of various sari designs, showing the myriad ways in which they are designed, how they have been affected by cultural exchanges, the styles of weaving, and even the different ways of wearing them across the country. “The book on Indian saris celebrates the meaningful engagement of contemporary Indian design with the traditional handloom industry of India,” Professor Katiyar wrote on his personal blog.

Published by Wisdom Tree in association with NID, the book, Katiyar said, looks at the hand woven sari and its relevance in today’s market. The international launch of the book was held in April this year in London. Wednesday’s release will be its Indian launch.
