The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) sleuths on Wednesday arrested the Nigerian dealer who had allegedly supplied cocaine to a group of college dropouts near Bhavan’s College at Girgaum last Wednesday. The dealer, identified as Abu Bakr Smith aka Yusuf, was arrested near Kalina University.
“We had received confidential information that Smith would come near the university to sell cocaine to some students. Acting on the tipoff, we deployed our team, and laid a trap for him,” said police inspector M Hiremath from ANC. When Smith appeared at the spot, the sleuths apprehended him. He was found with 15 grams of cocaine worth Rs 45,000 in the Indian market and Rs 4, 50,000 in the international market.
Smith was arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and was produced before the court. He has been remanded to police custody till July 15. “We will now enquire about his network and other members of the racket who provide drugs to college students, if any,” said an ANC official.
Officials from the ANC had earlier arrested two youths and detained seven others from outside Bhavan’s College. The two youths were found with two grams of cocaine each. The other seven were detained for questioning.
