R.P. Singh, the father of the deceased Ranbir Singh, who arrived here on Saturday along with several of his relatives said,” My son had no criminal record. He had come to Dehradun on July 2 to join service at Selaqui. The police had picked him up and have cooked up the story to justify his killing in cold blood.” An ex-serviceman, Singh claimed that the police had picked up his son soon after his arrival in the city and had killed him to win medals. Ranbir Singh, a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, was 24 years of age and was an MBA from an institute in Meerut.

The relatives of the deceased created a scene at the Doon Hospital and tried to prevent the body from being taken for postmortem demanding that a probe by Central Buraeu of Investigation (CBI) be ordered in the matter first. The agitated parents and relatives had later met the state Chief Minister Nishank who later ordered a probe by he CBCID. A state government spokesperson said that= Nishank has conveyed that truth will come out in the probe and if anyone is guilty he will not be spared.

According to the police, three motorcycle borne youth on being stopped a police sub inspector in the posh Dalanwala locality on Friday had beaten up the sub inspector and had fled with his service revolver. They had panicked on being approached by he police official since two of them were carrying country made fire arms.

The Inspector General of Police (Garhwal Range) MA Ganapathy says,” The number of the motorcycle on which they had fled was flashed around and they were intercepted by the police on the ring road.” He said that on being intercepted, the three had tried to flee by firing at the police and one of them was killed in the exchange of fire. The remaining two had managed to flee from the spot.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, Amit Sinha told The Indian Express,” Investigations have revealed that the motorbike that was recovered from the spot of the incident was a stolen one. It belongs to one Ram Mehr of Ahir village in Panipat in Haryana.”

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has also demanded a CBI probe into the matter saying that there enough pointers to this being a case of a fake encounter.
