A day after Team Anna members criticised the draft of the proposed Bihar Lokayukta Bill,Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Thursday that he “did not need a certificate from anyone” on his anti-corruption drive.

“Some people have a habit of passing remarks. They should be cautious in their choice of words. In any case,we do not need a certificate from anyone on our serious intent to weed out corruption,” he said in West Champaran,on the second day of his Sewa Yatra.

“I had not made any commitment to anyone for anything. I am only committed to the people of Bihar,” said Nitish,in an indirect reference to Team Anna’s reported grouse that his government did not engage former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hedge and senior lawyer Shanti Bhushan in drafting its Lokayukta Bill.

In fact,Arvind Kejriwal had handed a rough sketch of the Bihar draft during his visit to Patna in September. On Wednesday,Kejriwal had tweeted that there was “nothing new” in the Bihar government’s draft.

The state government is likely to bring the new Lokayukta Bill in the winter session of the Assembly. The draft proposes to bring the office of the CM also under the ambit of the Lokayukta.
