Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and JD-U president Sharad Yadav called for stern legal action against the leader of opposition Rabri Devi.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav on Monday called for stern legal action against the leader of opposition in the state assembly Rabri Devi for allegedly making "rude and insulting" remarks against Kumar and state party Chief Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan.

"I am also a politician and I want respect and protection of my prestige. Stern legal action must be taken against Rabri Devi for her utterances against us", Kumar told reporters at the Jayaprakash Narayan airport here before leaving for campaigning for the NDA candidates.

"JD(U) and NDA have taken her rude and insulting remarks seriously and all possible legal actions are being explored to get her prosecuted", he said, adding law must take its course on the issue.

An FIR was registered against former chief minister Rabri Devi for alleged remarks against Kumar and Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan late last night in Chapra charging her with violating the model code of conduct for elections.

"We have lodged a case against Rabri Devi under section 171(G) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant section of Representation of People's Act (RPA) for alleged violation of model code", Saran District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer B Rajendra said.

In his first reaction over the controversy erupted following his wife's statement, RJD supremo and railway minister Lalu Prasad said "I only know that Nitish Kumar is my younger brother and I have nothing to elaborate on this topic."

"Kumar knows the fact that we have brotherly bond for long", Prasad said when his reaction was sought over the issue.
