The area councillor Vijay Rana got elected on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket. However, during the second year of the term he defected to the Congress and has been a part of the party ever since. The ward has not witnessed any major project being executed during the past five years. The lack of development is visible in the condition of the roads and the encroachments in the market.

The ward witnessed a lot of turmoil a earlier this year after a child from the area,five-year-old Khushpreet Khushi was kidnapped. The residents took to the streets and violence erupted in the area. The residents have also raised the demand to rename Burail after Khushpreet.

Development in the area

With the aim of improving the water supply in Burail, booster pumps along with tubewells were installed. Another tubewell has been upgraded. The inadequate water supply was a problem in the area with frequent complaints being received from the residents. To enhance the water supply further,a booster of one lakh gallon capacity is being installed.

A number of transformers were made available to tackle the problem of frequent power cuts. Three to four more transformers would be installed. A community centre was upgraded to provide facilities to the residents for recreational activities. Widening of some of the roads has been done.

Problem Areas

The haphazard construction and encroachments are a problem in the area. Anti-encroachment drives have failed to make a difference. Widening of a road near Dev Samaj College is yet to be done. The area witnesses frequent traffic snarls. Many roads in the area are in need of carpeting which are full of potholes.

Water logging is another big problem. The parks have not been developed. The shopkeepers have encroached upon the area in front of their shops. This leaves little space for people to walk. The pavements are lined with a variety of goods. Garbage can be seen dumped at various places in the sector with the bins overflowing.
