  • While the city is still trying to come to terms with the deadliest terror strikes that the country has ever seen, the tragedy has failed to dampen the spirit of the organisers of the Mumbai Marathon, an international event held every year in January.

According to Procam head Vivek Singh the annual even will be on time. “By the grace of god, we believe that the Mumbai Marathon will be held on time and as per the schedule. I know our city has witnessed a huge tragedy, a complete madness in the last few days but these cowards will achieve nothing,” he said.

The Mumbai Marathon is being held annually since 2004. The various categories that the event has are full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), dream run (6 km), senior citizens' Run (4.3 km) and the wheelchair event (2.5 km).

Apart from the famed international athletes, a large number of city enthusiasts take part in these races. This also means a crowded roads and a large assembly of people at the starting point near the Shivaji Chattrapati Terminus, the place that happened to be on the recent terror map.

According to Singh, not just the time of the marathon but there will be no change in the start, finish or route of the event. “There will be no change of venue. Once the authorities overcome this current crisis, we will sit with them and work out a proper plan to hold the marathon on time. We will enhance the security of the place,” stated Singh.
