The University of Pune (UoP) is unlikely to get a full time vice chancellor before December this year.
The state government has already appointed a three-member v-c search committee under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court judge Justice B N Srikrishna. Director of IIT-Kanpur Sanjay Dhande and principal secretary of higher education department J S Saharia are the other two members of the committee.
However, during the assembly elections, almost a month was lost as no development could take place owing to code of conduct. The committee came up with an advertisement in mid-October after the elections.
The committee has invited applications for the post of v-c and they are expected to receive applications till November 15. As per the advertisement, eligible candidates can apply for the post in a month’s time from the date of publishing of the advertisement. “The committee will scrutinise all the applications after November 15 and shortlist the names. The committee may also invite some candidates for personal interview,” said the source. As the scrutiny is not going to happen before November 15, it is now certain that the Pune varsity will not get its new fulltime v-c before December.
The post of the v-c has been vacant from June 15 after the then v-c Narendra Jadhav resigned from the post to join as a member of Central Planning Commission in Delhi. Since then Arun Adsool has been working as an acting v-c of the varsity.
