Putting an end to the noise pollution caused by electricity generators in market areas, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today ordered that no electricity generators will be allowed to function in market areas of Chandigarh,Mohali and Ludhiana till further orders.

The directions were passed during the resumed hearing of a bunch of petitions filed by shop owners in Chandigarh and Mohali. The shop owners had moved the High Court against the orders of the Administration which had directed the shop owners to stop usage of individual electricity generators in a bid to stop noise pollution.

Taking note of failure of State authorities to reach a conclusion in this regard with the shop owners, the High Court has ordered that till further orders and till the shop owners reach a conclusion with the State authorities,no individual electricity generators will be allowed to operate.
