In a fresh twist to the controversial Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case,his mother,Narmada Gangaramji Prajapati,on Monday petitioned Gujarat DGP S S Khandwawala asking to him call off the CID probe into the case. Narmada has termed the probe as a sham meant to hide facts and shield the guilty.

In 2006,Gujarat Police claimed they shot Prajapati in self-defence after he fired at them. Prajapati was an eyewitness to the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in an alleged fake encounter in 2005. He was reportedly shot dead by the polices Special Operations Group just before investigators could reach him to quiz on the Sohrabuddin killing.

The SC had asked CBI to probe the larger conspiracy behind the killing of Sohrabuddin and disappearance of his wife,Kausarbi. But the state government,which instituted a probe by its CID (crime),reportedly refused to part with the documents related to the case to the CBI,despite repeated requests.

In her petition,Narmada has pointed out that SC had observed in January that the probe by the state was neither just nor accurate,and there was no reason why it should not be believed that the unknown third person with Sohrabuddin and Kausarbi at the time of Sohrabuddins killing was Prajapati,though the state has claimed otherwise.

All these facts show that killing of Prajapati was a plan to destroy a witness who was alive,and strong suspicions come to the fore. In both Prajapati and Sohrabuddin cases,call details show involvement of three IPS officers… Only after CBI started investigating the Sohrabuddin case,the CID …started arresting police officers one after the other, her petition said. I have no faith in such investigation and appeal that the investigation agency must wait until the SC takes a decision, the petition said.
