Following reports of the Centre putting on hold the ambitious ropeway project,Junagadh Mayor Satish Ahir has clarified in a statement that the final decision is yet to be taken in this regard.
I have talked to Union Minister of Forests and Environment Jairam Ramesh in this regard and no decision has been taken yet. We are doing our best for the ground realisation of the ropeway project. Ramesh was supposed to come here for spot assessment of the proposed site, but right now he is busy dealing with the flood situation in Karnataka. He will be here before taking any decision on the project, Ahir said in a statement.
Elsewhere, state Forest Minister Mangubhai Patel said on Wednesday: “Citing threat to endangered vulture species nesting there, the Central government is of the view that the ropeway project on the Girnar Mountain isn’t possible. However,we hope the minister (Jairam Ramesh) will find a solution to the issue.
