New Mayor of Delhi Rajni Abbi is set to shift her office from the existing Town Hall to the new Civic Centre, despite the fact that the part of the building she will be shifting to has not yet received a fire safety certificate.
Abbi said since a majority of the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have shifted to the Civic Centre, her work can be better channelised if she moves to the centre, too.
Almost all officials are now at the Civic Centre,so it makes more sense if I go there, she said.
On Monday, she will meet Chairman of Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia to discuss a temporary arrangement till her office is ready. My office will take another month to be fully ready, but there is space on the first floor that I can use as a temporary office till my office is ready, she said.
Leader of the House Subhash Arya had shifted to the new address a few weeks back. He has his office on the third floor, which too has not received fire safety clearance. Chandolia juggles between Town Hall in Chandni Chowk and Civic Centre on Minto Road for work.
We are working towards getting fire safety clearance. It is just a formality,we will be getting it in a few days, said Abbi.
The new Civic Centre is 28 storeys high, but the first six floors have not received NOC for fire safety so far. The MCD had designated the first six floors for political representatives.
The delay in shifting was leading to inconvenience for the public, who had to continuously juggle between Civic Centre and Town Hall to meet officials of different departments. While the departments had shifted to the Civic Centre, former Mayor P R Sawhney was still working out of Town Hall.
