  • The flower-bedecked Metro train that began its run between Delhi and Noida on Thursday got a warm send-off from the two ends by the first ladies of these states, and both in a veiled competitive tone announced the service as a personal achievement.

The Metro saw two inauguration ceremonies, the first after noon in Delhi from where it left, and at Noida a couple of hours later, before it began its return journey.

In Delhi, the train was flagged off by Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. It, however, had an indifferent debut run since no leader or senior official rode in it. On the other hand, CM Mayawati sent off the train from Noida City Centre and travelled in it till the Noida Sector 16 station, Z+ security and all. She was accompanied by Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, E Sreedharan.

At the inauguration ceremony in Akshardham, Dikshit said: “Stepping out of the confines of Delhi, DMRC will now reach NCR. The first train has been flagged off and the Chief Minister of UP will receive it at the Noida City Centre.”

At the other end, Mayawati claimed: “Soon after I took over as the chief minister, I asked the Noida Authority to connect the city with Metro and to engage the DMRC for this.” She congratulated her government for bringing the Metro ‘on time’, though it had missed its October deadline. She also seized on the Metro platform to talk about other upcoming projects. She said: “I have plans to make Noida and Greater Noida attractive for industrialists. Metro is a step towards that.”

    ... contd.

COMPEITIVE INAUGURATIONSBy: Rajesh Vyas | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The inauguration of such schemes should be done by the common man and not by politicians. A lot of time and money are wasted by such extravaganzas. After all, such projects use the taxpayers' monies and hence all this competitive inaugurations should be discontinued forthwith.I for one, did not expect Mr. Jaipal Reddy to get involved in this inauguration hoopla.
No issue as long as public is getting sth good.By: Avinash Baranwal | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Sheila is also a politician so is Mayawati. So, both will try to take claims. None is an angel. So,no issue who is saying what, as long as public is benefitted. Let us hope Mayawati stick to her words and develop NOIDA and also some other places in UP => So that people get job there only and do not go to crowd Bombay and help Raj like people getting political plank.
