“If Narendra Modi and others making allegations (about local involvement) know, then they should come forth with information,” said Patil, adding that in case any local help to the terrorists was detected, they (Maharashtra Police) would arrest the culprits.
On the claim of Pakistani intelligence agencies that terror groups from Bangladesh were involved in the 26/11 attacks, Patil said there was no evidence to that effect and added that the work of detecting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants through inspections and combing operations, as well as deporting them was on.
He, however, refused to divulge details of the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the terror attack investigations.
Referring to Pakistan’s admission on Thursday that “some part of the conspiracy” behind the Mumbai terror attacks was planned on its soil, Patil said this was due to the correct evidence being put forth by the Mumbai Police.
Patil said Maharashtra had identified two pieces of land for the National Security Guard’s (NSG) hub in the state and though the force had asked for 1,500 acres of land, it was decided in a discussion with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram that work could begin on a 30-acre piece of land near the Juhu aerodrome, pending a final decision.
On the controversy over the appointment of A N Roy as the state Director General of Police (DGP), Patil said Roy had proceeded on leave, and they had sent a letter to the UPSC asking for the eligible officers to be empanelled. He added that the state Government would take a decision on approaching the Supreme Court against the HC order after legal advice.
