A day after the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked for the ISI chief to be called to India as investigations had revealed a Pak-hand in the terror attacks, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said “no such information is available from initial investigations”.
Speaking to the press after a special Cabinet meeting called at his residence on Saturday, Deshmukh said they were talking with the Prime Minister for the creation of a NSG-like battalion in Mumbai to tackle terror situations. Deshmukh soon headed to Delhi as he was summoned for the Congress Working Committee meeting to be held in the night.
Dismissing reports that the terrorists had created hostage situations in the hotels, Deshmukh said: “If people would have been taken as hostages, then terrorists would have put some demands. But there were no demands.”
With Mumbai being an important national city, Deshmukh clarified that the government received threat alerts on a constant basis, but there was no specific input on these attacks.
The Government has announced Rs 25 lakh as compensation for the police officials who were killed, with the family members also getting salary of remaining service tenure. The state Government sanctioned Rs 6.5 crore to help these families. The Government would also provide housing facility to the family members, along with a job based on qualification of the family member.
