No policy on unorganised traders,HC slams UT

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday came down heavily on the UT Administration for not taking an initiative to formulate a policy to provide facilities to unorganised traders in the city.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday came down heavily on the UT Administration for not taking an initiative to formulate a policy to provide facilities to unorganised traders in the city.

A division bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ajay Tewari admonished the Administration for not framing a policy and instead seeking adjournments. The Bench remarked that the Administration was soft pedaling the issue. Making it clear that the high court does not want to run the Administration, the Bench stated that if a policy is not framed by the next date of hearing,UT Home Secretary will have to appear before the court.

Questioning the “intention” of the Administration,Justice Surya Kant said: “I have serious doubts that your bureaucrats have any time for this.” The Bench observed that not framing a policy is a loss to the marginalised class.
