CWG scam: Cong dismisses Opposition’s demand for Dikshit’s resignation

Cong said that there is no such allegation in the report which warrants major action against her.

As BJP pressed for the dismissal of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit indicted by the CAG report on Commonwealth Games projects,Congress said that there is no such allegation in the report which warrants major action against her.

To a question on whether any action would be taken against her in the wake of the CAG’s report,Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said,” We have not yet seen the entire report. But of whatever we have seen, there is no such allegation that would attract major action.”

“The report has just been tabled in Parliament. It will then go to PAC,which has representatives from all political parties. Hence there is no need for thinking more on this issue now,” Dwivedi said.

Dwivedi’s remarks are significant as they came after a meeting of Congress Core Group, which was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the absence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Gandhi has undergone a surgery, which will require her to be out of India for two-three weeks. Rahul Gandhi is also accompanying her.

Dwivedi is one of the four member panel, including AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi,Defence Minister A K Antony and the Congress President’s political secretary Ahmed Patel, assigned to look after all matters related to the party for the time being.

PAC will initiate action if any wrongdoing found: Dikshit

Under fire following CAG report indicting her and her government for irregularities in CWG projects,Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found by the Public Accounts Committee looking into the issue.

“Look, this is a CAG report. The process is that the report will be referred to the PAC which can call any concerned authorities or officer for questioning,” Dikshit said.

She said her government will send to the committee any official called for questioning.

“We will send them. If it is found that any wrongdoing has taken place, they are equipped to take action,” she said.

The Chief Minister, who has come under intense pressure over CAG’s questioning of the way the Games projects were handled, said that at that time the priority before the government was to conduct a successful event.

“But if anything wrong has been committed, the PAC is there to take action,” she said.

CBI should file a case against Sheila: BJP

Upping the ante,BJP demanded CBI file a case against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the basis of the report of CAG which indicted her for alleged irregularities in several Commonwealth Games projects.

“CBI must register a case against her as Comptroller and Auditor General has exposed her involvement in irregularities,” Gupta said.

He said BJP will hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan on August 9 to demand her dismissal while party workers will “gherao” Parliament on August 11 to press for her removal.
