Ruling out any rapprochement with his estranged grand nephews Maran brothers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday charged them with not only attempts to create a division among his family members but also coming out with 'news against partymen' like Union Minister A Raja, among others.

In an article published in the DMK's party mouthpiece 'Murasoli', he said, "I can tolerate any disputes they wanted to create in my family but how can I do so when they continuously indulge in blaming my government and my party."

Indicating his younger son M K Stalin would be his political heir, Karunanidhi said Maran brothers-owned 'Dinakaran' had published a survey (last year) which put Stalin ahead of his first son M K Azhagiri and his daughter Kanimozhi when they did not even make any attempt or announce their intention to be his political heir.

This was an attempt to "create a feeling of intense dislike" among his children, he said, adding "I did not even think that these attempts were pre-planned."

Karunanidhi said the same paper published another survey to show that the then Union Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi, younger sibling of Maran brothers, as the most efficient Union Minister from Tamil Nadu leaving the most experienced P Chidambaram (Congress) to second spot, T R Baalu (DMK) to the third spot and Dr Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK) to the last place.

"Is it necessary for such a survey when the Union Cabinet had representations from two or three parties from the state," he said.

"I angrily told Kalanidhi Maran and Dayanidhi Maran to stop publication of the series of the surveys," Karunanidhi said. But they ignored him and the "survey on my political successor was published," he said.

"While the earlier survey had created confusion among friendly parties, the political survey was an attempt to create trouble in my family," he said, adding the survey had angered Azhagiri's supporters leading to violence in front of the Dinakaran office at Madurai.

CM Vs MaransBy: A.NATARAJAN | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Now the 'Sun TV' acts in a neutral way, which is not tolerated by Mr Karunanidhi. As long as it was the mouthpiece of his Party, he was projecting the Maran brothers and SUN TV. When it starts giving equal importance to all the news items, including that of AIADMK, the party of Vijayakanth etc., Mr Karunanidhi is so angry. After all Mr CM should realise that ours is a democratic country and people are watching all these things. People are in a position to understand things and get themselves ready to write the judgement at the appropriate time.
DMk is MKBy: Ram | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward I think the readers are very confused. Actually, DMK is Deeds of MK. So, Mk is the owner of the organisation called DMK and all its assets. So, MK has the right to announce the heir of his empire called DMK. Can anyone in DMK cadres object?
marans and nidhisBy: k.madhukar | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Main grouse of karunanidhi must be, by hindsight that Mr Dayanidhi maran did not do what mr raja did now. i e Collect money for DMK party showing favours to telecom industry.Do we remember, one shiv sena minister was forced to step down by Bal thakeray for the same sin during NDA regime?
Dayanidhi Maran and KalaignarBy: KUMAR | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward There is nothing wrong in the survey published by Dinakaran last year it was Mr Dayanidhi Maran who was instrumental in bringing lot of new industries and investments to Tamil Nadu when he was a union minister. Regarding the matter of Mr Raja every one in Tamil Nadu knows that he is not a saint and these allegations have been already published in leading english dailies all over the country. Dinakaran published it and the whole of Tamil Nadu has come to know about it.Mr Raja is not a saint people are aware.
Dynastic Fiefdom of KarunanidhiBy: Lakshman Balasubramanyam | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Karunanidhi should stop the Dynastic succession syndrome in TN Politics if he has the courage to actually do so. Unfortunately in India not only the politicians play the dynastic card, the average public carry the colonial hangover of annointing successors from the powerful ruling families! When will the Indian and India grow up to play the true democratic function and clearly define the limitation of power to not more than 2 or 3 terms for any one to rule? I do not believe that this is a dispute between the Marans and Karunanidhi but more of Karunanidhi's need to save his legacy and fiefdom for his son Stalin instead of having the ability to deny Stalin that role and make it available to some one else. Why not give Marans the opportunity and see if they do well and ask Stalin to channel his energies to fight for his political rights from the Marans after seeing their administration skills?
