The Central government has finally decided not to grant reservation for eunuchs in government jobs.

The Central government has finally decided not to grant reservation for eunuchs in government jobs. Conveying the final stand taken by the Central government,its counsel Onkar Singh Batalvi apprised the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday that the Centre was not in favour of granting reservation to eunuchs in government jobs.

A division bench of the High Court posted the case for July 6 for final arguments. The development took place during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Kajal Mangal Mukhi,a eunuch and resident of Punjab.

While Punjab and Haryana have already decided to include a separate category under the head of transgenders for reservation in government jobs for eunuchs,the Central government had refused to do so.

Batalvi said he had received instructions from the Central government that it did not intend to file any other affidavit in this regard and would stand by the one filed earlier by the Department of Personnel and Training.

Only persons who are physically as well as mentally sound in health are admitted to government service and every candidate for appointment to a post under the government is required to produce a medical certificate of fitness from the appropriate medical authority and as such the department does not bar transgenders from taking up government job, the affidavit filed earlier by the Central government read.

Denying allegations of discrimination and violation of Article 14 or 16 of the Constitution,the ministry had submitted impotency is not a disability and,therefore,persons suffering from impotency cannot get benefit under the persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities),Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act,1995.
