Kharar and its surrounding urban and rural areas are reeling under acute power crisis even as local officials of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) seemed to be indifferent to the long unscheduled power cuts and voltage fluctuation.
Though the scheduled power cuts, ordered by the Power Controller have been withdrawn some time back, outages for 4 to 8 hours daily, tripping and voltage fluctuation remain a norm in the area.
Kharar PSEB Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) Satwant Singh expressed ignorance over the reason behind the power shortage and accused his predecessors of “doing nothing” to improve the power situation.
“I fail to understand what my predecessors have done as I am doing all the work which they had to do long time back,” said Singh.
The power supply in the area remained suspended without any prior intimation from 9 am to 2.30 pm on Monday besides tripping and voltage fluctuation experienced several times during the day.
A senior PSEB official asserted that no power cuts were imposed by the Power Controller at present and if power cuts persist in Kharar, it must be due to some local problem.
Kharar Citizens’ Welfare Council has urged the PSEB Chairman to immediately examine the working of the local PSEB office and improve the deteriorating power supply situation.
