West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the state government will do everything for the development of the hills but will never part with Darjeeling.
We will help you with everything for your development, for the development of our brothers and sisters in the hills with all our heart. We are ready to sacrifice our life for development but we will not part with Darjeeling, she said at a public rally in Darjeeling.
In her inimitable manner,Mamata Banerjee said: Mohabbat dil se hota hai, jhagra karne se nahin, in her bid to woo the hill people and Gorkha leaders.
This was her third visit after becoming the CM and the second after signing the agreement to set up the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) on July 18.
The Chief Ministers political message to the GJM was clear the state government will do everything to meet the expectations of the people but there should not be any kind of movement for a separate state.
But beyond the talk of friendship and development in public forum where the controversial issue was avoided, the GJM has maintained that the demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland has not been dropped.
Addressing the rally,Mamata said if Kashmir is the paradise of India,Darjeeling is the paradise of Bengal.
