People wanting to travel to Attari would no longer be able to board the Samjhauta Express from Delhi as the Railways has stopped issuing tickets to the border station. The decision came following the terror attack on Samjhauta Express on Sunday that killed 68 people.
“Only tickets for Lahore will be issued,” Northern Railway's chief PRO Rajeev Saxena said, adding people wanting to go to Attari or Wagah border can always take other trains till Amritsar from where the border station is just seven km away.
People wanting to take the train till Attari needed to produce a valid passport for obtaining the ticket. Since they were Indian citizens, their passport numbers were often not checked properly at the booking counter as happened last Sunday, leading to the suspension of three booking staff.
