The government has turned down deposed Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s request for providing a tutor for two of his children, who are unable to attend school as the entire family is under house arrest.

The move prompted a senior lawyer Tariq Aziz to send a legal notice to the law for rejecting Chaudhry’s request for a tutor for his children. He said the children’s fundamental right was being violated.

Chaudhry’s daughters Ifra (18) and Palwasha (16) and their seven-year-old brother Ahmad Balaj have not been allowed to attend classes since their father was placed under house arrest following the imposition of Emergency.

Palwasha, who was to take her O-levels exam at the British School last year, was not allowed to step out for the test. The school had to make special arrangements and send the examination papers to Chaudhry’s home. Chaudhry had sought a tutor for Balaj and Palwasha, but the request was turned down by the government, sources said.
