No work, no pay: UPSRTC tells its staff

The state government has decided to act tough against the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) employees who are going on a two-day strike on Wednesday.

UPSRTC Managing Director Alok Kumar said on Tuesday that action under Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) would be taken against employees who would forcibly stop the movement of buses or create ruckus in corporation premises. Also, UPSRTC administration would follow "no work-no pay" policy for the strike period.

A statement from UPSRTC said services of contractual employees would be terminated if they joined the strike. The Home Department had been asked to deploy security personnel at workshops, depots and bus stations to ensure safety of those employees who do not join the strike.

To avoid inconvenience to passengers, it has decided to issue temporary permits for plying buses on national highways and run UPSRTC's own buses without conductors during the strike.

These decisions were taken after the employees' association refused to defer their strike which could affect the movement of around 10,000 buses across the state.

Meanwhile, employees of various power corporations in UP decided to remain on strike and the engineers decided to boycott work on February 20 and 21 on the call of all-India trade unions and national coordination committee of power employees and engineers.

Convenor of Vidyut Kamrchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti Shailendra Dubey said that the strike will be in protest against policies of the Centre as well as the state governments regarding privatisation of power sector and service-related issues.

Power employees took out a procession on Tuesday in support of the strike.
