  • The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday witnessed unruly scenes including exchange of allegations between the members of the ruling BJP and main opposition Congress over the issue of alleged virginity tests of brides during a state-sponsored mass marriage in Shahdol district.

The issue was raised in the House during the zero hour through an adjournment motion moved by Choudhary Rakesh Singh, Kalpana Parulekar, Arif Aqueel and others, all Congress members.

In his submission, Singh said it was a serious matter that such an incident had come to light when the House was going on. Replying to Singh's submission, the BJP members unanimously said that the Congress member was talking as if the virginity tests had taken place while no such thing had occurred. Normalcy was restored in the Assembly only after Speaker Ishwardas Rohani invited the agitated Congress members to come to his chamber to decide on the manner in which the issue would be discussed in the House.
