The Health department has confirmed 13 cases of dengue from various parts of the city. Patients with similar symptoms are being reported almost every day from hospitals and health clinics across Ludhiana.

Yet, the Health department today said that there was no need to panic as none of the reported cases were serious. We are monitoring the condition of the patients to take stock of the situation, an official said.

“We have 13 confirmed and about 40 suspected cases of dengue in the city. But there is no need to panic as these are only sporadic cases,” District Health officer Dr S S Dhir said.

While many patients of suspected dengue have been admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, about four cases came to light yesterday at Shri Rama Charitable Hospital near Dholewal. The hospital spokesperson termed the cases as those of dengue.

The four patients are the residents of the risk-prone areas where mosquito breeding is high due to ponds of stagnant water. While one of the patient belongs to Giaspura, others are from Vijay Nagar, Kasib Nagar and Textile Colony. Two fresh cases of suspected dengue were reported in the hospital today.

The DMCH, meanwhile, admitted another dengue patient today. He has been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Mall Road, confirmed the Health department.

Dr Dhir said that as precautionary measures, the department has formed teams which will visit areas from where the maximum cases of dengue have been confirmed. Team members of the mass media wing of the department also visited some disease-prone areas in the city and asked the residents to take precautions.
