For People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Badal,it is all about timing — be it launching a third front in Punjab or foray of IAS and IPS officers into politics.

While addressing mediapersons on Wednesday,Badal said that third fronts have emerged in Punjab politics and though he cannot match the stature of leaders like G S Tohra,he seems to have got the timing right. “Every speech cannot start with Chandigarh and river waters. Punjab’s people have graver concerns such as unemployment, corruption and poverty. My stature may not be as high as Tohra’s or ideology as big as that of communists, but I have created the third front at the right time. The people of Punjab are willing to write a new history and I have just come at the right time,” he said.

Claiming that the ruling party was promising poll tickets to IAS and IPS officers,he added: “I have written to the Election Commission of India that such a move will seriously endanger the possibility of free and fair polls in Punjab. This conflict of interest will vitiate the entire elctroral process. I have suggested that the EC mandates all serving officers from participating in elections before a two-year cooling period after they retire. The commission has accepted my plea and assured to take up the matter with the government.”

“A lot of commissions are being created by politicians and bureaucracy to park themselves in after retirement. At least two years of neutrality needs to be maintained,” he said.

On US tour

Badal will woo NRIs during his 14-day whirlwind tour of the US and Canada from July 27. High on symbolism,it will start from the historic gurdwara in Sancromento, from where the Ghadar movement was launched by 200 activists. “It is the place from where they pledged to free India of British rule. We will cover 14 cities in 14 days in this outreach and goodwill tour,” he added.

On poll manifesto

The PPP is ready with the poll manifesto. The question is should we be the first or the last ones to release it.

Feelers from parties

I have read reports about the CPI and CPM announcing after their meetings that there is a consensus on having a electoral allaince with the PPP. I see it as a very positive step but am still to be apparoched by any party for poll pact.

God save Punjab from lying politicians, croons PPP’s CD

Only divine intervention can save Punjab, croons the first music CD of People’s Party of Punjab (PPP),which was released on Wednesday.

It begins with seeking God’s intervention to save Punjab from lying politicians, daughters in wombs, clean its polluted rivers, free its youth from drugs and feed the poor.

It also takes a dig at the media by praying to make those wielding the power of pen,to write the truth.

The seven songs penned by comedian Bhagwant Mann, now a PPP activist, range from devotional to satire and humour.

One takes a dig at Punjab Congress president’s (Capt Amarinder Singh) chopper flights and Deputy Chief Minister’s (Sukhbir Badal) daily announcements of “false” reforms through popular Punjabi folk song — ki mein jhuth boliya.

Then comes Mann’s leader jhoothe and another spin off of a popular folk song,Jago, asking people of Punjab to wake up.
