As the results showed BJP losing,a canteen boy at party’s headquarters at Ashoka Road commented about the BJP prime ministerial candidate L K Advani: “Advaniji budhe ho gaye hai.”

The 2009 Lok Sabha verdict was more for the prime ministerial candidate than anything else. “We have to look at the bigger picture. For me local candidate was not important,I cast my vote to make the prime minister,” 34-year-old S Das,who came from Orissa 12 years ago, said. Das was among the many voters who voted for the ‘PM candidate’.

“Lok Sabha election is not about roads or sewer lines,it is about country’s image and our economic policies. I can’t waste my vote over local issues,” said 20-year-old hotel management student Priyankar Sharma.

There were some who voted for the party.

“It is important that I help my PM (candidate) win,so I voted for the party despite the (constituency’s) ticket being given to a useless person,” fashion designer Aparjita Parasai said.

Meanwhile, autorickshaw driver V P Singh had a ‘smart’ advice for the BJP: “Maybe the party should have fought elections in Atal Behari Vajpayee’s name and later made Advani the PM.”
