Despite the scorching heat, Madhya Pradesh reported nearly 48 per cent turnout in 16 constituencies in the second and last phase of polling on Thursday. The polling percentage would go up as voters inside 296 booths were still exercising their franchise at 5 pm when the turnout was last tabulated.

The revised figures would bring the turnout close to that in the first phase polling on April 23 when 13 constituencies recorded a little over 51 per cent turnout.

Bhind, which saw sporadic skirmishes, saw the lowest turnout at 34.35 per cent. Yashodhra Raje’s Gwalior constituency recorded the second lowest polling at 35.54 per cent, Morena, from where BJP state president Narendra Singh Tomar is a candidate, recorded a turnout of little over 47 per cent. While Khargone reported 56.17 per cent polling, the other two constituencies where more than 54 per cent voters turned out were Dewas and Khandwa. Voters in as many as 28 booths across the state boycotted poll citing politicians’ inability to attend to issues like electricity and water. One person was injured when a constable fired to separate two caste groups that engaged in violence in Morena.
