Actor Aamir Khan has challenged a showcause notice from the Competition Commission of India accusing him of forming a cartel with other film producers last year to “corner” multiplex owners.

Khan has moved the Bombay High Court, saying the showcause notice is without jurisdiction, denying any role in the alleged cartel and seeking quashing of the showcause notice, issued in December last year. The notice was issued to Khan and Aamir Khan Productions, the government said.

The Centre, meanwhile, has contended that the High Court cannot entertain a case at the showcause notice stage before the matter is contested at the appropriate tribunal.
