A number of residents moved court claiming their names were not in HUDA survey list
Not satisfied with the survey done by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers, the Panchkula authorities are now planning to outsource the survey work to some private concern.
According to sources, the decision was taken after a number of slum dwellers in Panchkula moved court saying that their names were not included in the survey list despite the fact that they have been staying in various slum areas for long.
“HUDA was asked to conduct a survey in the Panchkula district for the allotment of flats to slum dwellers under the slum rehabilitation scheme. Survey of two colonies, including Azad colony and Mathuram colony of Sector 21 was conducted, but within a few weeks there were a number of residents who moved court claiming that their names were not in the survey list prepared by HUDA,” said a senior officer of the Panchkula administration.
He added, “There are around 13 colonies in the district that are to be rehabilitated under the scheme and the survey of 11 colonies is yet to be done. We would soon be inviting expression of interest from private concerns in this regard.”
Meanwhile, residents believe that the step will go a long way in ensuring transparency in the allotment process.
“In many colonies the names of the actual beneficiaries were missing from the survey list, while fake names had been added. But with the private concern doing the survey, we expect that the transparency will be maintained,” said Ram Kumar, a resident of Rajiv colony, Sector 16.
