Amalendu Chakraborty,author of Akaler Sandhane and Ekdin Pratidin,died in North 24-Parganas district on Monday after a brief illness,his family said. He was 75.
Akaler Sandhane and Ekdin Pratidin were made into critically acclaimed films by veteran director Mrinal Sen,with the first film even starring the likes of Smita Patel among others.
Chakraborty won the state-instituted Bankim Puraskar for Golap Sundari in 1987 and Narasimha Puraskar,a Delhi University initiative,for Jabajjiban in 1986.
He started his career as a teacher and taught in Kidderpore Academy at one point. Chakraborty is survived by his wife and son.
