  • A day after the Government removed Nirmala Venkatesh from the NCW, Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary defended the move saying the former had violated her mandate.

"There is a clear mandate given for the National Commission for Women and violation of that attracts removal," Chowdhary said.

The minister asserted that the decision was taken after great application of mind and after the commission had rejected Venkatesh's report on the Mangalore pub incident.

"What she says personally against me makes no difference. It is all right in her individual capacity she is perfectly entitled to her opinion," Chowdhary said.

"I don't think both of us are more important than the mandate that is laid out for us," she added.

Venkatesh was removed from the NCW on Friday.

The government issued a notification for her removal with immediate effect saying ‘she had conducted herself in a manner unbecoming of her high post’.

Venkatesh, who headed a three-member team to probe the pub attack, had blamed the pub owners for not providing adequate security.

Her remarks had created a controversy after which the Women and Child Development Ministry sent a separate team to inquire into the incident.

Sacking of NCW PersonalBy: Sanjana | 28-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward Proves how personal the issue is to the Minister of Women and Child welfare - Renuka Chowdary in her agenda to break as many families as possible, ruin as many women and children as possible just because her daughter's marriage broke down.
Soooo personalBy: Guru | 28-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward Keeping aside who was right or wrong, the decision is so personal. This is pseudo-secular Taliban who wants to hear only what it likes to hear. I don't see any difference.
Is Nirmala Venkatesh a Ramasene member or a NCW member?By: Wjdsouza | 28-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward I am completely amazed to see the opposition from many of my patriotic citizens who are totally ignoring the very reason why NCW team leader is sacked! Ramasene followers attacked the girls, pulled their hair, used foul language and driven them out of the pub in open day light. It is a crime committed in front of every body in a open day light! Instead of condemning this dastardly act, the NCW leader acted as if she is one among the Ramasene follower. How can any one without any prejudice tolerate these things and completely ignore the acts of the aggressors and blame the victims? I congratulate the minister for taking this step.
farceBy: Ganesh | 01-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward If everything about the incident was known, what was the point in sending the lady there. Is it to make a scrapegoat of her.It reminds me of the condemnation of Nanavathi commission on Gujarat. If everything about Gujarat was known why was it necessary to appoint a commission?
Another kind of fanatismBy: Raj | 28-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward She was removed because what she said was not acceptable to Renuka Chaudhary. How is it different from say Modi removing an official whose views are not acceptable to him? Yet Modi is blamed for his so called right wing politics. I will blame Renuka for her pseudo-secular politics. I am agreeing with Ram sene but may be Nirmala Venkatesh was telling truth. Fanatism of all kinds are wrong. Pseudo secular fanatism even more so. Because it is a fanatism of convenience and not of ideology.
NCWBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 02-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward The father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi was totally against drinking alcohol and there is complete prohibition in his home state right from its creation. That ban was imposed as a mark of respect to the Mahatma. Now, one leader, Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury of the political party which is still surviving on the strength of the Gandhi aura has started a "Pub-Bharo" campaign. What a tribute to the father of the nation? By the way, how come those liberated ladies who send thousands of pink panties to the Ram Sene forgot to send black purdas to the head of the UP Madrasa board who banned co-education in the Madrasas?

He literally begged us restore the hard disk and was ready to pay money. She is fat and very dangerous..

Renuka-blind-NirmalaBy: Pradhan | 28-Feb-2009 Reply | Forward Nirmala and Renuka - blind leading a blind both fall in hell. Well, if one blind is sacked, it doesnt make any differnce as long as the other blind is still around... Indian system of democracy is shame
