The first world journal of Endocrine Surgery, an initiative of Dr Amit Agarwal of Department of Endocrine Surgery, SGPGI, is set to be released by institute Director Dr R K Sharma during the 9th Postgraduate Course in Endocrine Surgery, scheduled for November 12 to 15.
The peer reviewed journal will be edited by a board comprising 30 experts from across the world. “Endocrine surgery has recently emerged as a super-specialty in our country. But no journal in the world has exclusively catered to research in this field,” said Dr Agarwal, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
“Most journals require research work based on large number of cases, which is not possible with endocrine surgery and is not very common. But it has some rare cases which are useful to experts. The journal will also be catering to such case reports with rare endocrine disorders,” said Dr Agarwal.
“Some research work from South Asian countries is region-specific, which might not find a place in a western journal but are quite significant to experts here. Such research needs to be published,” said Dr A K Verma, another doctor of the department. “We are looking forward to publish almost 12 papers in each of the four issues in a year,” said Dr Agarwal.
The postgraduate course in Endocrine Surgery, held every two year by the department, is a four-day training workshop aimed at keeping the surgeons update with latest techniques and technologies in the field.
