With the Congress not making any effort to defend him from the Opposition attack and the Government due to make a statement in Parliament tomorrow on his remarks about the killing of Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay today invoked the name of Indira Gandhi to remind the party about his contribution. He also expressed displeasure over the Congress spokesperson distancing the party from his remarks.
“Don’t forget that this Congress (Indira) was born on December 31, 1977 at my 2, Janpath residence after Indiraji lost to Raj Narain,” Antulay told reporters outside Parliament House. “During Indiraji’s time, I was one of the party general secretaries and Buta Singh also used to be a general secretary. Along with Indiraji and Sanjay Gandhi, I was the only person who knew the party. I even used to convey party positions then. Abhishek (Congress spokesperson Singhvi) should have inquired with me before dissociating the party from my stand.”
In Lok Sabha, Congress MPs were silent as the BJP demanded his resignation.
