Thanks to rediff.com, the comics that we have grown up reading might just be an SMS away. In an innovative venture, online community portal rediff.com, has tied up with Diamond Comics to make comics available on cell phones. This includes a wide range of comics such as Chacha Chaudhary, Panchatantra, tales of Akbar-Birbal and epics like the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.
As of now, the content is available with two service providers. The company plans to rope in the rest of the telecom operators within three weeks.
Sunil Purushe, assistant vice president, mobile, Rediff.com said that the new initiative of Rediff was meant to reach out to not just children but people in general who have grown up reading comics.
“The idea was to provide the comic experience on a mobile phone which can be accessed at any time from anywhere. Diamond Comics is one of the leading players in the comic book industry and so we entered into an exclusive tie-up with them. Now, Chacha Chaudhary, Billoo, Pinky, Phantom, Shaktimaan as well as the all-time favourite comic digests like Panchatantra, Tenalirama, Vikram Betal, Akbar Birbal, Ramayana and Mahabharata are available on mobile phones. We will be adding more titles to it within three months,” he said
A mobile user can read the comics by logging on to http://mobile.rediff.com/comic _ or by sending an SMS ‘Chacha’ to 57333 to get all the comic titles.
“One can read the comics for which respective telecom operators will charge Rs 10 for a 24-hour session for unlimited access to all the comics in the library,” he said.
