Now, corporators want free Internet on laptops

BMC administration said a fresh tender for Internet facilities would be issued soon

Corporators of the BMC are now demanding free Internet access on the laptops that are provided to them. This is in addition to the hike in their honorariums, which is awaiting approval from the state government, and free Samsung Android phones, which have already been given to them.

In response to the latest demand, the civic administration in the standing committee meeting on Monday, said a fresh tender, providing only for Internet facilities for the laptops, would be issued soon.

"We will issue a separate tender for the Internet facility," said Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajeev Jalota. He added that within the BMC premises, corporators have access to Wi-Fi Internet facilities.

However, BJP corporator Manoj Kotak said, "The Wi-Fi is not functioning properly in many parts of the building. What is the use of providing laptops without Internet connection?"

At the cost of roughly Rs 36,000, the administration will purchase a laptop for each of its 332 municipal councillors, including nominated members. The proposal for the laptops, which was placed before the committee for approval on Monday, also included a training workshop that will be held to educate the corporators in the use of these devices.
